Kavanagh’s SuperValu Staff & Customers Raise €40,100 for Donegal Hospice – “money will go directly to patient services”.
The staff and customers of Kavanagh’s SuperValu in Donegal have raised a spectacular €40,100 helping Donegal Hospice maintain their “patient-centred” vision for care. The money was raised in two ways. Staff of the four Kavanagh’s SuperValu stores in Donegal organized a series of fundraising events over a six-month period, while customers donated 5 cent each time they shopped in a Kavangh’s SuperValu store in Donegal by swiping their Real Rewards card.
Launched in May of this year “Help Us to Help Others” aimed to raised €30,000 for the local Hospice but the sheer determination of management and staff ensured that they exceeded the target by a massive €10,100.
At the wrap event to present the final cheque to the Donegal Hospice, Director of Kavanagh’s SuperValu, Noel Kavanagh, said “the Help Us to Help Others campaign has not only proved to be a massive success for the Donegal Hospice but it has also infused a great sense of team-work and morale amongst the staff in our four stores. When we asked our teams in the four stores to take on this corporate social responsibility campaign they embraced it whole-heartedly and in fact they led from the front.”
Mr. Kavanagh also confirmed that the Donegal Hospice would be their charity of choice for 2012 and indeed for coming years which was described as “as a real boost” for Donegal Hospice who must raise up to €600,000 annually reflecting 20% of the running costs.
Kavanagh’s SuperValu have four stores in Donegal – Ballybofey, Donegal Town, Buncrana and Dungloe and employ up to 350 people. Nationally Kavanagh’s have 11 stores along with stores in Northern Ireland and the UK.
Addressing up to 100 staff and management, new Hospice Chairperson Dr. James McDaid, who is also a founding member of the charity, said he was “overwhelmed with the dedication and commitment” demonstrated by the staff and customers of Kavanagh’s SuperValu.
“You are a generous organisation who have placed charity at the heart of your work. Without the support of organisation’s like yours, we would not be able to continue offering our clients the best care and support we can give them in their own home and at our facility in Knocknamona, Letterkenny.”
