We’re a family-owned company that comprised of 21 retail businesses throughout Ireland and the UK. Our beginnings as an independent local retailer coupled with our experience operating multiple businesses allow us to combine the benefits and enhanced services of a corporate company with a personal touch.
In addition, our partnership with Musgrave, the owners of the SuperValu brand, gives us the purchasing strength nationally to compete on price and range. Our commitment is to provide our customers with the best possible experience through quality products and first-rate customer service.

Our Heritage
Like many of our businesses today, we began as a single retailer in the heart of our local community. The business that started it all was a family-owned grocery store located on the Octagon in Westport, Co. Mayo. Then named O’Connor’s, it was opened in 1952 by Sean and Nora O’Connor. In 1979, the business was passed to Sean and Nora’s son-in-law, Noel Kavanagh, and he began ambitiously expanding the company into the Kavanagh Group we know today. The business has stayed in the family, with Noel Jr. appointed Managing Director of the group in 2017. Noel Snr still has an active role in the business as company Chairman.
We are proud to employ over 1,100 people across Ireland and the UK. It’s their hard work and dedication that have allowed us to grow to become one of Ireland’s largest independent retailing companies, operating 17 supermarkets across Ireland and Britain, along with a number of other businesses including: The Wyatt Hotel, Cobbler’s Bar, O’Cee’s Coffee Shop, and Westport Homeware Store.
